Art Dans La Cité

Art dans la Cité proposed to federate a network of European cultural and hospital operators encouraging the creation of works of visual art in hospitals.

The project consisted of the first edition of a prize-giving festival that presented artworks realized during residencies in the hospital. In order to give coherence and a thread linking the various interventions, the artists had to illustrate a common topic.

From July 2008 to June 2009, Art dans la Cité with the help of four European partners (Comunidad de Madrid, Regione del Veneto, Galerija Skuc in Ljubljana, and Centre Culturel Français de Cluj Napoca in Romania) organised workshops in six hospitals of five European countries: France, Spain, Italy, Romania, and Slovenia.

Furthermore, Art dans la Cité and partners realised the “European Festival of Visual Art,” which consisted of the production of artworks in a hospital context, and their dissemination across Europe.

The project was completed by presenting all the results during the Agora event organised by HOPE in 2009.

The European Festival of Visual Art in Hospitals received support from the European Commission as a part of its “Culture 2007-2013” agenda, and it has been included in other activities as recently as 2021.
