In line with their mission to improve the health of the population, hospitals and healthcare services are deeply concerned by the impact on health and quality of life linked to the degradation of the environment and climate change.
HOPE helps members to share knowledge, expertise and good practices. HOPE is also following closely the European Union policies on the environment and climate change through the work of the European Climate and Health Observatory and the work of the European Commission on “Sustaining our quality of life: food security, water and nature“.
Since November 2024, HOPE is part of the Horizon Europe project healthRiskADAPT aiming to develop and implement a health risk assessment for the Mediterranean, Alpine and Continental regions focusing on transformative adaptation regarding heatwaves, air pollution, wildfire emissions and pollen.
In October 2024, HOPE office finalised HOPE report on the 2024 selection of Environment and Climate Engagement of HOPE members.
On 13 May 2024, HOPE office co-organised an online event entitled “Climate Resilience – the Role of the Healthcare Sector”.
Following the Agoara in June 2023 which focused on “Climate and Environment for Hospitals and Healthcare Services“, HOPE office prepared a report on “Health in environment and climate adaptation policies” finalised in October 2023.
In 2021, HOPE endorsed the Joint Statement “Moving towards the right to ‘health for all’ by training the public health and wider workforce on climate change and health” led by the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER). This Joint Statement was part of the Thematic Networks 2021 of the European Health and Policy Platform.
